| Camp Rice | 3 Miles East Of Rice | The site, known as Camp Rice, was part of the Desert Training Center/California-Arizona Maneuver Area (DTC/CAMA), a complex of camps and training sites used by the Army during World War II. very little information is available for Camp Rice. It was used as a camp site early in the development of DTC/CAMA, from approximately August to October 1942, by the 5th Armored Division. The site may have also been used for camp purposes briefly by the 6th Armored Division in early 1943. Aircraft technicians from nearby Rice Army Airfield may have also used it for a tent camp after the armored divisions departed. Camp Rice improvements currently evident consist of dirt roads oriented in a typical CAMA camp layout. Although little information is available regarding Army facilities or activities at Camp Rice, its typical CAMA layout suggests motor pool, kitchen, and administrative areas were once present. There may also have been one or more ranges located directly to the south of the site as was common for CAMA camps. |

| Banning Airport | 127.15 | Banning | The Department of Defense (DOD) is not known to have acquired nor have had any controlling interest in Banning Airport, Banning California. Real estate records were neither specific nor complete. The airport was established by private parties in 1927 on 68 acres of privately owned land. In 1943, the U.S. Army conducted a training program for Army engineers in airport construction at the airport. As a result of the training program, the landing strip was lengthened and oiled. DOD made no other improvements to the site. The landing strip continues to be beneficially used. Anecdotal evidence supports ad hoc use of the airport during World War II by General Patton. No DOD disposal actions were necessary. The airport is currently owned and operated by the City of Banning, which has enlarged the airport site to 127.15 acres. It is primarily used by the general public and North American Jet Charters. |

| Palm Springs Army Air Field | 1690.01 | Indio | The Army Air Forces acquired 1,680.61 acres between 1942 and 1945 for use as a service station known as Palm Springs Army Airfield. In addition to the above acreage, the Department of Defense (DoD) had a service contract for the use of a water pumping plant and 9.4 acres upon which the plant was situated. Total acreage for the site was 1690.01. The 441.45 acres which were acquired by transfer, fee, and lessor interests, as well as 1,078.66 acres lease, were declared surplus 31 May 1946 and transferred to the War Assets Administration for disposal effective 2 December 1946. The remaining 160.5 acres were disposed of by lease cancellations dated 27 August 1945 and 31 July 1946. The service contract for 9.4 acres was terminated in approximately 1946 along with the other utility service agreements. At the time the property was being surplused, an interim license was being negotiated to allow the City of Palm Springs to use airport facilities (including hangars, buildings, gasoline fueling systems, available utility systems, and the sewage treatment plant) for operation of a public airport. The majority of the site is currently under withdrawal to the Agua Caliente Band of Mission Indians. The remainder of the site is owned by private landowners orthe City of Palm Springs and is used for a mixture of residential and commercial developments. The City of Palm Springs owns the property occupied by the Palm Springs Regional Airport. The City also operates a sewage treatment plant. The former beacon sites are all owned by private owners except for one site in section 36, which is owned by the State of California. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DoD and is therefore eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program-Formerly Used Defense Site established under 10 USC 2701 et seq. |
