Franklin Auxiliary Field No. 6640.00SacramentoThe US Department of War purchased the 640 acre site in Nov. 1942, for use as an auxiliary military airfield to Mather Field. It was designated Franklin Auxiliary Field No. 6. During WW II, the airfield was used for pilot training involving aircraft such as At-6, AT-17, and UC-78 trainers and B-25 bombers. The airfield consisted of four paved runways. At least five wooden structures built along the access road served as barracks and ancillary/support buildings for student pilots. A nearby groundwater well provided water to the complex. The US Government classified Franklin Auxiliary Field No. 6 as surplus in November of 1945. The site was turned over to the County of Sacramento, the present owner, on July 9, 1947 by way of a Quitclaim Deed. The site is presently divided into two distinct county facilities, the Franklin Field Airport and the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center.

Mcclellan Afb Housing101.27SacramentoThe property was established in 1942 to be utilized as temporary off base housing during WWII. In July 1948, the Executive Committee of the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce stated concerns over the Federal Public Housing Authority's proposal to sell the homes in the Parker Homes tract adjacent to McClellan Field. There is no known date of deactivation or disposal of the McClellan AFB Temporary Housing. According to records at the Sacramento County Assessor's Office, two of the parcels remain Government-owned. The other properties are either state-owned, city-owned or have been sold to private parties and are being used as housing. Research indicates that there is no conclusive evidence that DOD had ownership of control of the property, or that DOD ever used the property. This site therefore is not eligible as a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) under the Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP).
