Bomb Target No. 5 Hollister440.00HollisterOn 13 July 1943, the U.S. Government filed a Complaint in the U.S. District Court to obtain Paul J. Hudner and Mary Hudner's property. The Hudners leased the property to the U.S. and the Complaint was dismissed on 11 August 1944. Approximately 440 acres were used as a dive bombing target under NAAS Hollister, NAS Alameda, 12th Naval District. As of 15 October 1945, the bombing range was held in caretaker status, and the Lease was listed by NAS Alameda as terminated on 30 June 1946. On 8 April 1955, the San Benito Title Guarantee Company requested that the 12th Naval District bring a Dismissal of Action in the U.S. District Court to provide evidence of a full cancellation of the Lease as the Hudners wanted to sell the property. The property was sold by the Hudners by Grant Deed on 16 May 1955. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
Naval Auxiliary Air Station Hollister300.00HollisterIn 1941, the Navy acquired 300 acres for use as an air training facility. From 1943 to 1946, the Navy operated an air training facility for fighter squadrons. On 8 March 1949, the War Assets Administration issued a quitclaim deed granting the 300 acre Hollister NAAS to the City of Hollister. The site has been used to store crop dusting equipment and is currently used as a local airport. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
