| Redding Army Airfield | 1440.00 | Redding | Between 1942 and 1943, the U.S. acquired fee title to 320.0 acres by three Declarations of Taking and a leasehold interest to 1,120.0 acres. The total acreage acquired was 1440.0. The site was used by the Army Air Force as an Army Airfield. On 14 December 1946, the site was transferred to the War Assets Administration. The City of Redding and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) currently occupy 1,393.00 acres while the remaining 47.0 acres is occupied by the U.S. Forest Service. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the Department of Defense and is eligible for the Defense Environemental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites, established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq. |
| Whitmore Gap Filler Annex | 75.89 | Redding | On 05 January 1959, the U.S. Government acquired 49.29 easement acres and 18.15 license acres. An additional 8.45 acres were transferred to the Government by public domain. The total acreage acquired was 75.89.The site was used by the Air Defense Command Installation as a gap filler radar site. The improvements were one concrete block building, two 15,000-gallon underground storage tanks and a gravel road.On15 April 1961, 49.29 easement acres, 18.15 license acres, and 6.19 public domain acres were transferred to the Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service. On 01 July 1961, 2.26 public domain acres were transferred to Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management. Based on the foregoing the site has been determined to be formerly used by the Department of Defense and is therefore eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq. |
