| Porterville Army Airfield | 850.00 | Porterville | Between 1942 and 1944, the U.S. Government acquired 551.8 lease acres from the City of Porterville, 284.12 fee acres from 5 land owners, and a 1.53 easement acre was acquired by fee from the Hope School District. 13.79 fee acres were also acquired from 2 land owners for the contonment portion of the site. The property was used as an Army pilot training facility and a sub-base to the Lemoore Army Air Field, CA. In 1948 by Instrument of Transfer, fee, lease and easement acreage totaling 835.92 acres were returned to the City of Porterville for use as a minicipal airport. The remaining 13.79 acres were quitclaimed to the Tulare County Housing Authority on 28 April 1953. Based on the foregoing, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD and is eligible for the Defense Environemental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites, established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq. |
