Question: Lance Briggs? First of all would he be a good fit at weak outside LB in our 3-4, or maybe at one of the two inside spots? I know we have multiple third and fourth round picks, what would be a fair price? Would such an offer entice the Bears to move him? Are the Niners even interested? If so it would make sense as to why they didn't pursue the older A.Thomas as much. Any rumors?

Answer: London Fletcher-Baker recently fetched a five-year, $25 million deal (more than $10 million of it guaranteed) from the Redskins. Fletcher-Baker is about to turn 32. Lance Briggs is 26 and is very much in the prime of his career. He’ll want a lot more than Fletcher-Baker got, and the 49ers say they aren’t throwing any more big money at free agents. Besides, they probably would have to pry him from the Bears’ grasp with a high draft pick, and that’s not something they’re willing to do.

Question: What second day WR would best suit the offense? I hear a lot about David Ball? Any others worth noting?

Answer: David Ball certainly would be appropriate considering he was the most prolific 1-AA receiver since Jerry Rice. He seems like an overachiever, a la Wayne Chrebet, which isn’t a bad thing at all. However, he’s not that strong and not very fast. A Day 2 guy that could catch the 49ers’ eye is James Jones out of San Jose State. He followed up a good combine with a solid pro-day workout that included 21 reps of 225 lbs - not too shabby for a wideout. He’s certainly not blazing fast (4.59 40) but he’s a big body with soft hands.
