Finley, FB Brit Miller, NT Khalif Mitchell, RB Kory Sheets and WR Dominique Zeigler. ***** The 49ers also are interested in signing former Jaguars OT Tony Pashos to the 53-man roster. The 49ers still have one practice-squad spot to fill. Meanwhile, sixth-round pick Bear Pascoe made it through waivers, but the 49ers chose Finley instead. Finley had been playing ahead of Pascoe in recent preseason games.
As expected, undrafted rookies Kory Sheets and Alex Boone have been placed on the 49ers' practice squad. I'll add more names as they become available ... Add fullback Brit Miller to that list, according to his agent ... Add NT Khalif Mitchell to the list, according to his agent ....
As far as Sheets ... I know a number of observers out there thought GM Scot McCloughan should have been locked in an insane asylum when the 49ers released him yesterday. At this time of year, however, every team has a young running back -- look at San Diego's Gartrell Johnson -- they are excited about and don't want to lose their guy for someone else's guy. Yes, Sheets looked good in the preseason. But he looked good at Purdue, too, and still 32 teams passed on him in April.
