The 49ers had an earlier-than-normal Friday practice today because they are flying off to the eastern time zone later this afternoon. Takeo Spikes (shoulder) practiced for the first time this week. He said he would make a final assessment on his body Saturday night at which point he'll decide whether he'll play in Indianapolis.
Asked about Brandon Jones today, Mike Singletary said that Jones would be the No. 5 receiver behind Michael Crabtree, Isaac Bruce, Josh Morgan and Arnaz Battle. Singletary did say that Jones, Nate Clements and Battle could see time returning punts. Jones returned punts both at Oklahoma and with the Titans and said he was looking forward to the role. "It's something I like to do - get the ball in my hands," he said. Look for Michael Robinson to handle kick returns.
