The 49ers handed out their annual awards today. The most prestigious, the Len Eshmont award, went to tight end Vernon Davis. The award is given to the team's most inspirational and courageous player. Eshmont was an original member of the 1946 49ers.
LB Patrick Willis received the Bill Walsh Award, which is given to the team MVP.
Guard Davis Baas won the Bobb McKittrick Award, given to the offensive lineman who best represents the courage, intensity and sacrifice displayed by the longtime offensive line coach.
Nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin took the Matt Hazeltine Iron Man Award named after former linebacker/center Matt Hazeltine, a 13-year player known for his durability and dedication. Hazeltine died in 1987 from ALS.
Fullback Brit Miller won the Thomas Herrion Memorial Award, which is given to a rookie or first-year player who best represents the dream of former offensive lineman Thomas Herrion, who died in 2005.
In addition, LS Brian Jennings and LB Jeff Ulbrich were added to the team's prestigious 10-year wall. Shawntae Spencer previously was honored with the Ed Block Courage Award.
