As expected, rookie safety Curtis Taylor (hip) was placed on injured reserve today. That opened up a roster spot that the 49ers filled by elevating fullback Brit Miller to the active roster. The 49ers needed someone to fill Taylor's spot on special teams. Miller might be a fullback, but he knows how to tackle. Here's a short story I wrote about him this summer.
The 49ers filled Miller's practice-squad spot with former Fresno State WR Rodney Wright. Wright (5-9, 181) was drafted by the Bills in the seventh round of the 2002 draft and spent two seasons on the Bills practice squad. He's best known for his role on the AFL's San Jose SaberCats from 2005-2008. Wright, 30, was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in April 2009 and made their practice squad. He was released by the Chiefs on September 16.
