Dan Walters' Capitol Q&A

Ask a question

Dan Walters has been a California journalist for more than 40 years. He joined The Sacramento Union's Capitol bureau in 1975 and, six years later, started the state's only daily newspaper column devoted to California's politics, economy and social events. He moved his column to The Sacramento Bee in 1984 and it now appears in more than 50 California newspapers.

Dan can't answer every question that's sent in, but he'll answer as many as he can as time permits.

Term limits

Question: Assuming that Arnold will be re-elected in November, would he be elegible to run again in the next election four years from now? He would not have served two complete terms since he came to office by way of Grey Davis' ouster. Please explain.
- Slickamoe

Answer: Since Schwarzenegger served more than half of Gray Davis' second term, it counts as a full term for term limit purposes. Thus, if he is re-elected in November, that would be his last legal term as governor.
