There's an interesting discussion over at the Calitics blog on Rep. Jerry McNerney's vote against the proposal for a rapid withdrawl from Iraq. McNerney posted a response to the criticism, and now the commenters are going back and forth on what they think of what he said. The flak McNerney is taking for his vote is a result of heightened expectations among Democrats that their victory in November would lead to a quick vote to end the war. They reasoned that the results in the November elections were a mandate for just such a vote. But if you look back at McNerney's race against Pombo, you'll find that he was very careful not to run on a platform of immediate withdrawl. I imagine the same is true in a lot of the other swing districts that the Democrats won in November.
