Today's Field Poll shows a big surge in dissatisfaction with California's health care system, a drop in support for reforming it within the confines of the current system, and an increase in support for a single-payer, government run system. The survey is sure to lift the spirits of Sen. Sheila Kuehl and other supporters of single payer for California. It could also make Democrats less willing to compromise with the governor, if they think holding out might lead voters to approve their first option. On the other hand, results like this might prompt the business community to be more likely to accept a compromise in order to prop up the current system and undercut support for a proposal that would raise taxes to pay for a single payer plan.
