Capitol Alert

The latest on California politics and government

Turns out, Sen. John McCain won't be in Hollywood tonight after all.

The Senate leadership has scheduled a vote on a revised bailout package for the nation's financial industry, hoping to bring some stability to America's financial market.

So McCain (whom we mildly ribbed in this morning's AM Alert for his recent criticism of Sen. Barack Obama for hosting a Hollywood money-raising bash) will miss out on the event where donors will be asked for as much as $250,000 for Team McCain.

He, like Obama and Sen. Joe Biden, will be in Washington, D.C., for the vote.

Hector Barajas, a spokesman for the California Republican Party, said Cindy McCain, the would-be first lady, and Todd Palin, husband of vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin, will be at the fundraiser in McCain's stead.
