Capitol Alert

The latest on California politics and government

An update on new polling data on three contested propositions and the presidential campaign in California.

All the polls are from Survey USA, the robo-dialing polling outfit, which released another batch of polls last week.

Proposition 4 (Parental notification measure)
Yes: 44 percent
No: 31 percent

(Last week, it was ahead 52 percent to 36 percent.)

Proposition 8 (Gay marriage measure)
Yes: 47 percent
No: 42 percent

(This was a big swing from last week, whcih showed the measure trailing 44 percent to 49 percent).

Proposition 11 (Redistricting)
Yes: 20 percent
No: 21 percent
Undecided: 59 percent

(The truth is no one seems to know much of anything about this measure. Last week, 49 percent of those surveyed were undecided. That number has blown up to 59 percent.)

Survey USA has completed some presidential polling in California, with Democratic Sen. Barack Obama leading Republican Sen. John McCain 55 percent to 39 percent.

As for last week's vice presidential debate, 51 percent said Democratic VP Joe Biden topped GOP VP Sarah Palin, who was picked by 32 percent as the clear winner. A total of 17 percent said there was no clear winner.
