The latest on California politics and government

The Riverside Press-Enterprise's Jim Miller found an interesting twist to the early formation of the committee to recall Republican Anthony Adams of Hesperia, who voted for the budget package last month:

The main name on the Committee to Recall Adams is David Bauer of Sacramento. Last year, Bauer was campaign treasurer for Rep. Tom McClintock during the hard-fought race in Northern California's 4th Congressional District.

Bauer also is the chief financial officer of JohnsonClark Associates, a statewide campaign-consulting firm based in Sacramento.

That would be the same JohnsonClark that has overseen Adams' past campaigns and would be leading the fight against any recall effort.

That should make for some interesting conversations around the water cooler.

Related: GOP Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley, says Adams and his GOP colleagues who voted for the budget should be dealt with "in the normal election cycle" in an op-ed on Red County.

"Republicans who supported the tax increases made their choices as individuals. While I disagree with their decisions, I will defend their right to act as both a representative and a leader of their Assembly districts. Constituents can judge their performance in the normal election cycle," Cook wrote.
