Carly Fiorina's campaign had $2.8 million in the bank early this month heading into the final nine weeks of the Republican primary campaign for U.S. Senate, much more than either of her two rivals in California's GOP Senate race.
Former Rep. Tom Campbell ended March with $1.1 million in cash, while Assemblyman Chuck DeVore had $412,000.
That's according to the latest fundraising reports, which had to be filed with the Federal Election Commission by Thursday.
Latest polls show Fiorina and Campbell locked in a tight race in the June 8 primary, though none of the candidates have launched significant advertising campaigns. The winner faces Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in November.
Fiorina, a former CEO of Hewlett-Packard who loaned her campaign $2.5 million of her personal funds last year, reported raising $1.7 million in the first three months of the year. That compared to $1.6 million for Campbell and $626,000 for DeVore.
Fiorina, who entered the race in 2009, raised $3.6 million last year, putting her grand total at $5.3 million. DeVore has raised a total of $1.8 million for the race. Campbell has the smallest grand total but did not enter the race until mid-January.
Overall, Fiorina said, she has received financial support from 5,861 people. Two-thirds of her donors are from California, she said, and her contributors made average donations of $266.
Fiorina said she was "grateful to all the people from across California and the nation who are excited about my campaign."
Campbell spokesman James Fisfis said Campbell is raising money at the strongest pace and "is spending his money much more frugally."
