Folsom police have dealt with 19 traffic collisions from Thursday through Sunday, according to incident logs posted today.
Bicycle riders were involved in three of those collisions.
Two bike riders were struck Thursday. The first collision happened about 7:10 a.m. on Iron Point Road and Oak Avenue Parkway. The second car vs. bicycle collision occurred about 3:45 p.m. near Riley Street and Wales Drive. A third bicyclist was transported to the hospital about 5:20 a.m. Friday after being hit near Sibley Street and Levy Road.
More details from David Richie:
Thursday and Friday were the worst days with eight wrecks each. They included single-vehicle collisions with inanimate objects like fire hydrants, several hit-and-runs and several crashes involving at least three vehicles.
Those multiple-car pile-ups occurred Friday at Oak Avenue Parkway and Riley Street and on Greenback Lane near American Canyon Drive. Another three-car collision was investigated Saturday on Black Diamond Circle.
Speed and following too closely were the main factors identified by traffic investigators in all the incidents, said Officer Michelle Beattie, police department spokeswoman. As far as she knew, none of the benders resulted in serious injuries.
Folsom police are participating in a statewide, multiple week crackdown on drivers who are not wearing their seatbelts. This also is a good time for drivers to slow down and start paying more attention to the spacing between their vehicles, Beattie said.
