From Niesha Lofing:
A man who tried to pick up a 17-year-old girl waiting for a ride at Ponderosa High School has prompted an alert from El Dorado County authorities.
Sheriff's department officials say the girl was waiting at the Shingle Springs school for her mother to give her a ride at 3 p.m. Tuesday when the man started speaking to her, sheriff's Sgt. Bryan Golmitz state in a news release.
The man told the girl he was there to pick her up, but the girl knew he was lying and walked back to the main campus to be near other students. The man did not try to physically abduct the girl, Golmitz said.
The girl watched the man get into the passenger side of a green vehicle that resembled at Jeep Cherokee before departing. There is no license plate information available and the driver of the car was not seen, Golmitz said.
The man is described as white, between 45 and 55 years old, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds and balding with gray hair. He was last seen wearing light-colored shorts, a white T-shirt, long white socks and worn, large glasses. The man had a BlackBerry and a Bluetooth ear piece, Golmitz said.
The incident appears to be isolated, and no other similar incidents have been reported, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department at (530) 621-5655.
