A 36-year-old Sacramento man has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
John Joseph Mulligan will be sentenced on July 31, according to the news release. He faces up to 10 years of prison, a $250,000 fine, and a three-year term of supervised release. He also will be required to register as a sex offender, the release states.
According to the news release, law enforcement officials went to Mulligan's mother's home, where he lived, and asked for permission to search computers at the home. Mulligan's mother consented, and Mulligan also gave permission for agents to search a bag of his found in the garage, the release states.
Inside the bag, agents found CDs containing 380 files of child pornography, more than 100 of which were video files, according to the release. Mulligan admitted to knowingly possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexual conduct, the release states.
Mulligan originally downloaded the files from the Internet onto his computer, and then burned the images onto the CD and loaded images of child pornography onto his iPod, according to the release.
