Sacto 9-1-1

Sacramento County coroner officials are seeking the public's help in identifying a man found dead by a passing motorist on Sept. 1, 1989.

Authorities said the man had been shot and his body dumped in a ditch on Sheldon Road, west of Bradshaw Road.

Efforts to identify him through traditional forensics over the years did not lead to a positive identification, authorities said.

Forensic artist Barbara Anderson recently completed a sketch of the man. Her work resulted in the positive identification of another man in 2006.

Anderson believes the 1989 victim may be Hispanic, about 25 to 35 years of age, 6-feet tall and 178 pounds. He had brown eyes, dark-brown curly hair, sideburns, a thin mustache and beard. He had gold caps on his lateral upper incisors and a 14-inch healed scar on his left lower leg.

He was found wrapped in a tan comforter decorated with jungle cat pictures and wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and off-white cowboy-style boots.

He was carrying a rake-style comb in his left front jeans pocket and wearing a gold wedding ring. A business card from Cal Worthington Chevrolet was found on his body. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sacramento County Coroner's office at 916-874-9320.
