What are the Top 10 albums that you think are essential to any record collection? Sound off on on our brand spanking new message board/comments section.
The editors of www.DailyCD.com, an e-newsletter about “best of” music, posed the question recently and came up with this list:
1. Aretha Franklin – “I’ve Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You”
2. Bill Evans – “Waltz for Debby”
3. Boz Scaggs – “Silk Degrees”
4. Kruder & Dorfmeister – “The K&D Sessions”
5. The Zombies – “Odessey and Oracle”
6. Harold Budd and Brian Eno – “Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror”
7. Sarah Vaughan – “Sarah Vaughan”
8. Fred Neil – “Fred Neil”
9. Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabaté – “In the Heart of the Moon”
10. Lucinda Williams – “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”
Nice mix, but my 10 albums recommended for any record collection would go something like this:
1. Beatles, “Revolver”
2. Run-D.M.C, “Run-D.M.C.”
3. James Brown, “James Brown’s Funky People”
4. Miles Davis, “Kind of Blue”
5. The Stooges, “Raw Power”
6. My Bloody Valentine, “Loveless”
7. Nina Simone, “Wild is the Wind”
8. The Who, “Live at Leeds”
9. DJ Shadow, “Endtroducing”
10. Keith Jarrett, “Koln Concert”
