Searching for a job
The economy is expected to remain feeble this year, with unemployment rising, even with the $787 billion stimulus package of tax cuts and increased federal government spending signed into law by President Barack Obama on Tuesday. In a sign that laid-off employees are having difficulty finding new work, the number of people claiming benefits for more than one week rose to 4.81 million from 4.78 million, the highest total since records began in 1967. Throughout the country, workers are standing in lines at job fairs and career days in hopes of landing one of the few jobs available in the struggling economy. (17 images)
