Teammates call him 'Thor' - a Norse warrior name meaning thunder - for good reason.
Opposing running backs that cross the path Casa Roble defensive end/linebacker Dillon Markau can attest to the validity of that moniker. Markau - who goes 6-foot, 210 pounds - flies all over the field making plays for a stout Rams defense that is allowing just 11 points per game this season and pitched a shutout over bitter rival Del Campo last Friday.
But for all the ferocity Markau shows on the football field, he does have a soft spot: his great grandmother Frankie Richardson, who is 92. Richardson is at every game her great grandson plays in but because of deteriorating eye sight, it's hard to make out Markau's No. 45. However, neither can anyone else.
That's because, in addition to personal style, Markau elects to wear his blonde hair about two feet long, well down his back obscuring his jersey number to make himself more distinguished for Richardson to see. (See photo below)
"I do like having long hair," Markau said. "But mainly its so she can see me."
And the way the Rams are playing, Markau, Richardson, and all Casa backers have a league title and D-III title run in their sights.
