MIAMI -Kirk Morrison is about as optimistic a player you'll find.
But he was extremely disappointed the Raiders allowed a seven-yard completion on fourth and five that kept Miami alive and set up their game-winning field goal in the Raiders' 17-15 loss.
"That's a tough one," Morrison said with a sigh. "It's hard. It's definitely hard. I wish we could have got that play because we got them all the way down to that point."
Interim head coach Tom Cable said the Dolphins are now confident they can win close games and how the game ended was evidence.
The Raiders made progress today in that today's contest was competitive.
The Raiders last four losses had been by a combined score of 104-19.
"You know this is good for us," Cable said. "It hurts because you lost but we're getting closer. And I know that and the players know that and we've got to keep pounding away and we'll get a break one of these days."
The Raiders have no offensive touchdowns in 13 quarters so it's getting tough for players to wait for that break.
But you could tell in the locker room that players that have been around for some time, getting close isn't good enough.
They'd like to see some wins.
"We know what we've got to do at the end of games," Morrison said. "We've got to put points on the board and stop people. We're getting better but not where we want to be at."
Cable believes the Raiders will hold things together. But with the playoffs not a realistic possibility, the Raiders are left playing for pride with six games to go.
This would be the perfect time for players to start planning their vacations.
Cable doesn't see that happening.
"You know really it's just the character of the men in that (locker) room, the players, the coaches and doing right by each other every week," he said. "It's been outstanding and I don't expect to change."

That's an indication Darren McFadden still isn't 100 percent.
He admitted his feet were a bit sore after the game. But his inability to stay healthy is a big reason the Raiders are struggling on offense.
