Subject: Job Fair in Sacramento - June
11
On Thursday, June 11, we’re holding a job fair at Cal Expo to
allow State employees in danger of layoff to meet with representatives from
departments with vacancies to fill (primarily non-General Fund). The event will
run from 9 am to 3 pm.
Please inform your employees who received a notice of layoff
and/or SROA status that they’re eligible to participate in this job fair and
encourage them to do so. Provide each of them a copy of the attached
letter from DPA Director Dave Gilb. The letter includes directions to the
site and explains what they need to bring. We also will post more information on
DPA’s website to help them prepare.
You must provide reasonable release time (“administrative
time off”) for employees to attend the fair. That applies regardless of where
the employee currently works. However, this fair targets job openings in the
Sacramento region, so we expect it to attract mainly employees here and from
nearby counties. Employees coming to the fair from outside the area must travel
at their own expense. The State will not be able to pick up any of those
expenses.
We’re expecting representatives from as many as 60
departments to be on site to accept applications and interview qualified
candidates. Staff will be on hand to help
direct job seekers to departments with openings for which they’re eligible, and
to answer employee questions related to their benefits, transfer eligibility,
and other issues that may come up.
Later today we’ll post more information on our website
identifying hiring departments attending the fair, the classifications for which
they’re hiring, and the location of the vacancies they’re
filling.
For employees facing layoff who are unable to attend this
fair, including employees in other parts of the state, we’re preparing an online
job fair that we hope to launch within two weeks. That web link will be posted
on the DPA and SPB websites. It will list all available vacancies that can be
filled with SROA candidates, and provide other search tools to help match
qualified SROA candidates with openings they potentially can
fill.
If you represent one of the hiring departments that
will participate in Thursday’s job fair, we’re sending you a separate memo with
further information and instructions.
Thank you in advance for your help.
