Candidate of couture

ABC News

If I'm counting right, there are 18 - count 'em 18 - folks who've tossed their chapeaus into the political ring to be the next president. Nine Republicans, nine Democrats - only one of them, obviously, a woman.

But we've been seeing a lot of her. After recently going public with her candidacy, Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has been here, there and everywhere, making the media rounds in the two days leading up to tonight's State of the Union address (at 6 p.m.)

According to the Associated Press, Clinton has covered health care, Iraq and more. That includes at least four TV interviews, a news conference, a Webcast and a "forceful" appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee, where she appealed for better equipment and security for troops. “The Humvees are turning into death traps,” she complained.

And, while all of her world/national concerns are central to the campaign, we think one other will surface, if it hasn't already. Because, just as in the days when Bill Clinton was vying for the White House, we predict that the way Hillary Clinton dresses and does her hair will become a hot-button issue.

From our perspective? Well, looking at Monday night's newscasts (an ABC clip is shown above), we think she's definitely got more style these days. There are those of us who can go back to 1992 and remember when she was wearing a headband while standing by her man.

Today, she's on her own two feet and looking great. Love the hair, love the makeup - love the confidence. And isn't it super that she can wear any color - not just red, white and blue - and gray?

To the other 17 candidates (with, perhaps, the exception of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama) find a stylist - fast!
