It was politics as usual at Tuesday night's State of the Union address in Washington, D.C. And, it was quasi-predictable what the politicos would wear. (And you know there are those of us who can't help but take in the looks as well as the verbage.)
That said, here's the state of the fashions we saw:
* Among the men, there were plenty of red ties and blue ties. President Bush opted for Carolina blue. Dark suits. No surprise there.
* First lady Laura Bush arrived in royal red, while Lynn Cheney opted for white. Both wore suits - side by side. Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton, with multiple eyes on her, went with a charcoal gray suit, a pinkish top and Barbara Bush-like beads. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice looked somber in all black.
* And, for her first State of the Union speech as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (shown above) looked, well, a little blah in varying shades of ecru - or was it pale, pale green? I certainly was hoping for something a bit more eye-catching because she certainly could have out-dressed VP Dick Cheney, sitting next to her wearing, of all things, a pink tie!
Pelosi redeemed herself today, though, when she opted for a periwinkle blue suit and pretty jewelry for a D.C. mayors conference.
