... but not a format switch, as had been rumored in local radio circles for a while now.
Rather, KZZO (100.5 FM) fired its program director, Max Miller, after another lackluster Arbitron ratings book. The Zone finished 16th overall in the 12+ age demographic.
Steve Cottingim, general manager of the CBS radio stations in Sacramento, which includes The Zone, says afternoon DJ Shawn Cash will temporarily fill in as program director. There's a chance Cash might get the permanent job, too, but Cottingim isn't saying.
Concerning Miller's departure, Cottingim says: "We really felt it was not the right situation with him."
But Cottingim strongly denied that The Zone will change its current contemporary hits format.
"There is not even any consideration of doing that," he says. "The brand for this station is too strong."
