While I've been covering "American Idol" for another Bee blog (Idol Chatter), I've also been keeping my fashion eyes on what some of the contestants have been wearing this season.

And, while the Top 6 guys didn't blow me away with their fashion sense (Blake Lewis admits he wears "Grandpa" pants and loves argyle), the Top 6 girls - for the most part - made good purchases with their wardrobe funds.

Of course, Gina Glocksen, the resident rocker girl, stayed true to her funky red highlights, her tongue ring and her mix of leather and, well, leather. Haley Scarnato beat a shorter fashion path, wearing short shorts, short dresses and short skirts, even on Wednesday night's finale.

Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones loosened up and, by the end (they were in the Top 4), were two devinely dressed divas. Stephanie Edwards, at No. 11, dressed a little older than I thought she should for her 19 years.

And, speaking of the finale, winner Jordin Sparks was swathed in full-on red carpet couture at the very end, wearing a flirty black dress for Tuesday's final competition, and there was Wednesday night's golden-girl gown, both "tweaked" specifically for her by the reknown duo of Mark Badgley and James Mischka (sketches above).

ICONIXBRAND_1.jpgJordin got to meet with the two designers (Mark, left, and James) to discuss what she would be wearing for what would be the two biggest nights of her life. Again, I hate to keep bringing up her young age (did I say "17?"), but what a thrill to not only wear the designers' frocks but to also get that personal touch.

And, unlike Season 5's runner-up Katharine McPhee, who had to give back her hair extensions, which Haley wore this season, let's hope Jordin gets to keep her fashions!
