Looking back on how local fashion has evolved from my 21Q point of view (which is a great vantage point!), I'm amazed at the number of shows that have been held this year in various venues, featuring an array of talented - and mostly area - designers.
And, we have great places to shop, especially the ever-expanding local retail scene.
I don't see fashion and beauty letting up as we head into the second half of 2007. In fact, a big fashion show is in the works for August featuring four local designers, including one of my favorites, Casey Sue Douglass (pictured). She's already hard at work lining up sponsors for the event, which will benefit a worthy local cause, WEAVE.
I met with Casey Sue and her show coordinator, Regina Karsh, the other day at Tower Cafe. Everything is running smoothly, they report, but they really want to raise the fashion bar with this show, titled "Mantra: What Do You Live For?". So, the two women, along with the other designers and their models, will be toting buckets of sudsy water and hoses at multiple car washes to raise funds.
"We thought this would be a good way to get the word out early about the show, and to have some fun and raise money at the same time," Casey Sue says.
Here's the car wash schedule, and remember, it's for a good cause. Besides, who better to wash your Toyota than a model?
* Times/days: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Friday (June 29).
* Place: the Union 76 station at 2200 Fair Oaks Blvd. (at Fair Oaks and Howe Avenue).
Check back here and in The Bee for more information soon about the upcoming fashion show.
