The best college movies

Published: Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 - 12:00 am | Page 8H

"Accepted" (2006)

This hilarious release starring Justin Long (a.k.a. The Mac Guy), "Gossip Girl's" Blake Lively and funnyman Jonah Hill tells the story of slacker Bartleby "B" Gaines (Long) who has failed to get accepted to college, much to his parent's dismay.

In order to impress them, he decides to create a credible-looking web site to his own fictional college, South Harmon Institute of Technology.

He just doesn't expect other people to visit and get "accepted" to his college as well.

One is sure to immediately fall in love with not only the nonstop laughs, but also the endearing and relatable problems that people trying to get into college face.

"Old School" (2003)

Headed by a cast of hilarious screen veterans, nicknamed "the Frat Pack," "Old School" is easily one of the funniest college movies out there.

Friends Mitch (Luke Wilson), Frank (Will Ferrell) and Beanie (Vince Vaughn), all burned in some aspect of their lives, decide to start a frat house in order to feel young again.

The problem is the Dean of Students Pritchard (Jeremy Piven) seems determined to shut them down.

From the infamous Ferrell streaking scene to The Dan Band's hilarious cover of "Total Eclipse of My Heart," "Old School" is a must see for any college-bound, comedy fan.

"Animal House" (1978)

The classic frat movie that "Old School" and many others pay homage to is "National Lampoon's Animal House." John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon and Tom Hulce star in this chaotic look into the fraternity system that serves as the blueprint for most modern comedies.

Filmed in 1978, but set in 1962, "Animal House" follows the boys at the Delta House Fraternity, who just want to have a good time.

Although this might not be the most accurate view of college life, it's sure a fun one.

"Legally Blonde" (2001)

Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is the epitome of a blonde.

She is the president of Delta Nu Sorority, majors in fashion merchandising, has won multiple beauty contests, has the perfect boyfriend and was homecoming queen.

But that's all about to change. Her boyfriend suddenly dumps her, claiming he wants a more serious girlfriend, Elle decides to follow him to Harvard Law School and win him back.

In one of her best roles to date, Witherspoon shines in this sassy comedy.

"Road Trip" (2000)

Josh (Breckin Meyer) is going to college and leaving his longtime girlfriend Tiffany (Rachel Blanchard). He intends to send her a video of him talking about college life, but accidentally mixes up the tapes, sending her a naughty tape of him and another girl instead.

In order to save his relationship, he and three crazy friends decide to road trip to Texas so that he can intercept the tape and prevent her from watching it.
