Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said Friday that he will explore how to cut freeway congestion and create more transit-oriented business and housing hubs near light-rail stations – part of a focus on transportation in his first months in office.
The announcement represents the first of a handful of statements – white papers – Johnson said he will issue on his upcoming priorities.
Johnson said he will join Sacramento leaders next month in Washington, D.C., to lobby for funds from an anticipated multibillion-dollar federal stimulus package for infrastructure.
Johnson and his aides said one priority will be traffic improvements on the Capital City Freeway and around Cal Expo.
