If you hit three attempts in a row within two years, you&#8217;re required to sit out for a full year before registering again. Here\u2019s What Happens.<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life happens. Maybe you get sick, need to move your test, have a baby, or just aren\u2019t ready. You have options, but they come with rules and fees.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you need to reschedule your Prometric appointment (meaning you want to change the date, time, or test location), you can, depending on how early you decide to do so.<\/p> <ul class=\"wp-block-list\"> <li><strong>61+ days before the exam<\/strong>: Free to reschedule.<\/li> <li><strong>31 to 60 days out<\/strong>: $35 rescheduling fee.<\/li> <li><strong>5 to 30 days out<\/strong>: $100 rescheduling fee.<\/li> <li><strong>Less than 5 days<\/strong>: No changes allowed.<\/li> <\/ul> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep in mind that rescheduling is only allowed <em>within<\/em> the same testing window. If you\u2019re trying to move your test to a future window (say, from the March exam to the July exam), you\u2019re not \u201crescheduling\u201d anymore. You\u2019re postponing or withdrawing, and different rules apply.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-postponing-looks-like\">What Postponing Looks Like<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you postpone, you still intend to take the exam, but not this round. You can only postpone once per registration, and you have to take the exam within the next two scheduled windows.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fee for postponing is a <em>spicy<\/em> $500.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not cheap, so make sure you really need to move it before you make your choice. Also, remember that your postponement request must happen by the late registration deadline.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-didn-t-schedule-a-prometric-appointment\">Didn\u2019t Schedule a Prometric Appointment?<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s say you registered with the CFP Board, paid your fee, and got your education verified, but never actually scheduled a seat with Prometric.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you fail to schedule by the withdrawal\/postponement deadline, you\u2019ll be automatically deregistered and treated as a postponement. That means (you guessed it) another $500 postponement fee.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-you-can-cancel-altogether\">You Can Cancel Altogether<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decided to just take the L and not go through with it? You can withdraw your exam application. You\u2019ll get a $200 refund less than what you paid, but better than losing it all.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again, make sure you act before the late registration deadline. And don\u2019t try to cancel through Prometric. It won\u2019t work. You\u2019ll need to email the CFP Board directly to make your withdrawal official.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sometimes-you-get-a-break-for-emergencies\">Sometimes, You Get a Break for Emergencies<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have a medical emergency or something serious comes up, the CFP Board might waive your forfeiture fee.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need to send a written request within ten business days after the exam window closes. It has to be backed by documentation from a third party. For medical issues, you\u2019ll need a letter from a doctor explaining why you couldn\u2019t take the test. For other emergencies, third-party proof is still required.<\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skip this step (or send it late), and your request won\u2019t be reviewed.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happens-if-you-just-don-t-show-up\">What Happens If You Just Don\u2019t Show Up?<\/h2> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please don&#8217;t do this! If you ghost the exam, there&#8217;s no refund, no credit, and no makeup. You lose 100% of the exam fee. There\u2019s no grace period and no \u201coops\u201d button (could you imagine if we did have one, though?)
