These programs are provided at accredited colleges and universities.<\/li> <li><strong>Prior Education Credit:<\/strong> Already have financial coursework or certifications like CFA or ChFC? You might be eligible to skip some classes through a challenge status or transcript review.<\/li> <\/ul> <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-get-the-required-professional-experience\">Step 2: Get the Required Professional Experience<\/h3> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you\u2019ve met the academic requirements, it\u2019s time to put your knowledge into practice. The CFP\u00ae Board gives you two experience pathways. And while it\u2019s one thing to study these techniques, knowing when to consider, present, and implement them takes experience. It was designed to test your ability to apply knowledge, not just memorize facts. It&#8217;s also reported to be wordy (not sure if that&#8217;s to trip people up or if it&#8217;s just genuinely worded poorly).<\/li> <li><strong>Length:<\/strong> It lasts six hours in total, broken into two three-hour sessions with a scheduled break.<\/li> <li><strong>Topics Covered: <\/strong>Budgeting and financial planning, tax planning and insurance, retirement and estate strategies, investment management, risk management, and ethics.<\/li> <\/ul> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\ud83d\udc49 Here&#8217;s some helpful feedback to highlight just how serious this exam is:<\/em><\/p> <figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-small-font-size\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;When I got to the exam, I got blindsided. When it came to the psych questions, I was seeing terms I had never studied. Some of the calculation-based questions were nuanced in ways I had never seen before. There were quite a few questions that I just had no idea how to answer so I guessed. I ended up failing this cycle and realized that I probably did not do as many practice problems as needed, have the right tutor, and relied on the Zahn notecards too much.&#8221;<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/CFPExam\/comments\/1545g7v\/cfp_exam\/\">u\/maxv68<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure> <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-4-ethics-and-professional-conduct-standards\">Step 4: Ethics and Professional Conduct Standards<\/h3> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A great deal of accountability comes with guiding people through financial decisions. It&#8217;s also invaluable in a few different aspects. <\/p> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s what sets CFP\u00ae certification:<\/p> <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-potentially-great-salaries\">(Potentially) Great Salaries<\/h3> <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The financial advisor median salary is over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/business-and-financial\/personal-financial-advisors.htm\">$102,000<\/a> per year. Of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/careers-education\/cfp-salaries\/\">CFP\u00ae salaries<\/a> vary. Some financial planners barely hit $40,000 in their first few years. Others make nearly $200k. There are many factors that contribute to income in this field.
