The public art related to the Golden 1 Center has generated plenty of cultural conversation and debate around Sacramento, be it the $8 million “Coloring Book” in the plaza or Gale Hart’s excellent “Missing the Mark” series nearby on L Street. Another key offering will be a mural created by the Royal Chicano Air Force, the acclaimed Sacramento art collective known for its powerful and sometimes playful visuals mixed with a political bent. Until the new mural is unveiled for the Sacramento Kings’ 2017-18 season, the recently published book “The Accident Archives of the Royal Chicano Air Force” by Stephanie Sauer might be the best way to get updated on this Sacramento art institution. See some of the RCAF’s most compelling works and learn more about the sociopolitcal forces that helped shape its significant visual output.
