This picture of Liam Bayard Hunt, 21 months old, is a classic when it comes to Santa pictures. Liam is the son of Sacramento Bee design team leader Daniel Hunt. When he posted it on Facebook and Instagram, it got a ton of attention. And then The Washington Post called.
“Liam’s a great kid – and he’s great with people. But, for whatever reason, he’s not a fan of Santa,” he said. “So my wife, Amanda, set up an appointment at Parkside Pharmacy to get his picture taken by Lyda Mock; that way it wouldn’t be a spectacle at Arden Fair. We could not have been more right and wrong.
“We coaxed, we soothed and we went for broke when half an hour of all-out resistance turned into subdued crabbiness. We whisked him into young Santa’s lap, and he lost it. Snap, snap, snap … ‘Whew.’ But we never imagined his captured meltdown would be such a hit.”
This got us thinking: We want your classic Santa pictures, and we’ll have a contest for the top four. The winners will get bragging rights and their photo will be published online at sacbee.com/holidays and in the newspaper on Christmas Day. The Sacramento Bee photography staff will choose the winners.
Here are the rules: Include your full name, city, and the story behind the photo. Include the names of who is in the photo with Santa, which could also be your pets. Tell us the approximate date and who took the picture. The photo can be 60 years old or a minute old. Just make it a good one. It should make us feel something – like laughter … or pity, for example. Submission of the picture grants The Sacramento Bee rights to use the picture online and in print.
Deadline: Noon, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. Pictures sent after that time will be added to a gallery, but will not be eligible for the contest.
How to submit: Put SANTA PHOTO in the subject line and email to firstname.lastname@example.org
