Sacramento Bee readers share their gardening adventures.
Another gardening year is almost complete – which means it’s time to get a new calendar.
For 2014, the Sacramento County Master Gardeners created a new gardening guide and calendar focused on “Pollinators and the Flowers That Love Them.” The full-color guide goes far beyond feeding birds and helping bees to show how Sacramento gardeners can attract beneficial insects and help wildlife year round.
The guide also includes many fun facts on these topics such as the big difference between bees and wasps. (Bees are vegetarian; wasps are carnivorous.)

The handsome calendar also includes monthly chores and space to jot notes about what’s happening in your own garden.
According to master gardener Mindy Cecchettini, the 2014 edition is available now at several Sacramento nurseries including Green Acres (which also will offer it at the Folsom store), Talini’s, Fair Oaks Boulevard Nursery and The Gifted Gardener. You’ll also find it at The Ruralist in the 57th Street Antiques Mall and the Avid Reader bookstore, both in Sacramento.
Suggested price for the 2014 gardening guide and calendar is $11. Gardeners can also order the calendar online at ucanr.edu/sacmg.
