Study after study shows that reading to a young child results in benefits that last well into adulthood. To promote literacy – and to have fun – Fairytale Town will host an early-childhood literacy festival Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27. The author of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” Laura Numeroff, tops the list of children’s book authors and illustrators on hand at the 15th annual ScholarShare Children’s Book Festival to share stories and sign books. Plenty of hands-on activities and storytelling performances round out the weekend. Free. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 3901 Land Park Drive, Sacramento; fairytaletown.org; 916-808-7462.
