When: 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27
Where: Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm, 1415 Pumpkin Lane, Wheatland
Reason to Run: This is a hybrid road/trail race on the dirt roads at Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm – flat, but no asphalt. This is a family-oriented race. Overall male and female winners will receive their weight in pumpkins. Chris Sandstron holds the course record at 16:39.
Berkeley Trail Adventure 50K, 35K, half-marathon, 10K
When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26
Where: Spillway Picnic Area, Tilden Regional Park,
Cost: $80 (50K), $65 (35K), $50 (half), $40 (10K)
Reason to Run: The trails in Tilden Park and Wildcat Canyon are some of the most challenging in the Bay Area. Plus, if the fog stays away, you’ll have great views. Expect lots of climbing, though: You’ll gain 6,800 feet in the 50K. Even the 10K has a 1,050-foot climb.
Folsom Blues Breakout Half-Marathon, 5K
When: 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18
Where: Johnny Cash Bridge, Folsom
Cost: $75 (half), $90 (relay), $35 (5K)
Reason to Run: Can anyone say PR (personal record)? Folsom’s Jesse Barragan won last year’s race at 1:15:23, holding off the women’s winner, Jane Kibii, of Colfax (by way of Kenya), who finished at 1:15:40.
