Bike Rides & Hikes

Runs and races around Sacramento

Running for health and exercise is virtuous, but sometimes you just want to pin on a bib number and race against hundreds of others. Here’s our weekly best bet for races of various lengths and surfaces.

ROAD

Paul Reese Memorial Clarksburg Country Run 20-mile, 13.1-mile, 10K, 5K

When: 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8

Where: Delta High School, 52810 Netherlands Road, Clarksburg

Cost: $78 (20-mile); $68 (half); $43 (5K, 10K)

Reason to Run: It’s the 50th running of Sacramento’s oldest road race, started by the late Paul Reese. The half marathon serves as the Pacific section USA Track & Field Half Marathon Road Championship race, so expect all the fast runners to race that distance. The 20-miler is often used by California International Marathon-bound runners as their last long run before the marathon.

TRAIL

Diablo Trail Adventure 13.1-mile, 10K, 5K

When: 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8

Where: Castle Rock Recreation Area, Walnut Creek

Cost: $84 (half); $63 (10K), $58 (5K)

Reason to Run: Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Save Mount Diablo, which for decades has done just that – repelling development while developing environmentally friendly trails. The half marathon is the race to pick if you’re seeking major climbs. You’ll gain 2,492 feet.

UPCOMING

Run to Feed the Hungry 10K, 5K

When: 8:15 a.m. (10K); 9 a.m. (5K) Nov. 26

Cost: $35 (until Nov. 21); $20 (youth, 17-under)

Reason to Run: It’s a Sacramento Thanksgiving tradition.
