Coffee shops raise $22,000 to honor slain Sacramento County deputy

A fund-raising drive Monday at Dutch Bros. coffee shops collected $22,490 for a memorial fund honoring slain Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert French.

Four locations in the Sacramento area donated $1 per drink sold to the fund Monday. The shops also had collection buckets for further donations.

Dutch Bros. announced Wednesday on Facebook that the event had raised $22,490. Donations to the fund can still be made here.

Also, Chili’s Bar & Grill at 3199 Zinfandel Drive will raise money for the fund between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. today. Fifteen percent of the day’s sales will be donated to the fund.

French, 52, died in a shootout Sept. 30 at the Ramada Inn on Auburn Boulevard. Two CHP officers also were wounded. Thomas Daniel Littlecloud, 32, suspected of killing French with a high-powered rifle, died Saturday of his injuries. Two women also have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 21-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, French is survived by three adult children, grandchildren and a girlfriend.
