Kudos to: Sgt. Steve Dutra, Rancho Cordova Police Department

Accomplishment: Recipient of “Service Above Self” award from Sacramento Rotary

Details: Dutra, a member of the department’s Problem Oriented Policing detail, oversees the Rancho Cordova Police Athletic League and supervises the school resources officer program. Dutra donated the $1,000 that came with the award to PAL.

Kudos to: Christine Vourakis, Sacramento State professor of nursing

Accomplishment: Named to 2014 Class of Fellows by the American Academy of Nursing

Details: Vourakis is a nationally recognized expert on mental health and addictions. Her interests include prevention and treatment of addictive disorders in adolescents and women, and the role of self-help groups in addiction recovery.

Kudos to: Andrew Stephens and Emery Mesich, musicians

Accomplishment: The teens will participate in the Monterey Jazz Festival’s 2014 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra this summer

Details: They will perform on the main stage at the festival with the elite group of musicians from all over the country. Stephens, who plays the trumpet, recently graduated from Rio Americano High School. Mesich, who plays the saxophone, recently graduated from Folsom High School.
