Accomplishment: Provided $25,000 grant to help homeless women find jobs

Details: U.S. Bank gave the money to Women’s Empowerment. Homeless women receive computer training and résumé-writing help, practice job interviews and get other preparation to become ready for work.

Kudos to: Papa Murphy’s, Assemblyman Roger Dickinson and Sacramento Councilman Kevin McCarty

Accomplishment: Provided backpacks to students

Details: Students at John Sloat and Elder Creek elementary schools received the free backpacks filled with school supplies from the pizza chain. According to the Sacramento City Unified School District, Dickinson and McCarty also previously donated free backpacks to other Elder Creek students.

Kudos to: City of Sacramento

Accomplishment: Recognized for green practices

Details: The Institute for Local Government and the California League of Cities received awards for leadership in promoting sustainable practices that address climate change. Awards were presented for 6 percent in energy savings and for 5 percent reduction in community greenhouse gas emissions.
