Kudos to: Anthem Blue Cross and Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Accomplishment: Opened three new game rooms

Details: A $16,500 grant from Anthem Blue Cross and Boys & Girls Clubs made the game rooms possible at the Boys & Girls Teichert Branch Clubhouse, 5212 Lemon Hill Ave. In the game rooms, youngsters learn to follow rules, interact with peers and gain confidence as they play their favorite games in a safe environment.

Kudos to: United Way volunteers

Accomplishment: Worked on 37 projects across five counties

Details: During the Day of Caring, 1,000 volunteers worked on projects that included establishing a garden for foster families, sorting food for a food bank and cleaning up the grounds of a nonprofit.

Kudos to: Yolo County Library staff

Accomplishment: Nearly doubled enrollment in summer reading program

Details: Library staff attended community events, streamlined registration and offered freebies and a contest as it attracted 5,319 participants to the “Read to the Rhythm” program, held this summer at all eight library branches. Last year, 2,794 people participated. The largest age groups in this year’s program were adults and children ages 6 to 12. The program aims to increase literacy.
