Sweep sidewalks and save

This is one part of a new weekly feature in Home & Garden, highlighting ways residents can save water.

• Sweep, don’t spray: Use the broom to sweep your sidewalk, walkways and driveway instead of spraying down concrete or hardscape with a hose. Cleaning your concrete surfaces without water saves a lot in a hurry – an estimated 150 gallons every time.

If you sweep once a week, that adds up to 7,800 gallons annual water savings.
