"Help! It’s cold and our dogs are out of blankets!"

That's the plea that Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento put out on Facebook on Wednesday as a storm was closing in.

The shelter explained that the $24,000 washing machine that it had purchased three years ago was broken, leaving dogs without clean blankets.

The kennels can get cold for pups, particularly when there is colder, inclement weather.

By Thursday night, community members had come out in full force to make sure the shelter dogs would stay warm.

"In just 24 hours, we've received an incredible number of donations, just in time for the cold weekend ahead," the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

Thanks for working hard for the animals, Boy Scout Troop 288! We're always amazed at the difference our young animal loving citizens can make!

Hundreds of blankets have been donated, and the shelter said there should be enough to tide the dogs over until the washing machine is fixed.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department donated more than 200 blankets on its own, the shelter reported.

"Thanks everyone for your help!" the shelter wrote. "You guys are the best!"
