Two Sacramento animal shelters are waiving pet-adoption fees one day this week – a week that opens with Adopt A Shelter Pet Day.
Front Street Animal Shelter plans to "give back to our supportive community" with free adoptions on Thursday, this year's Big Day of Giving. All adoptions will still require adoption-counselor approval.

"When you consider that the puppy you adopt from a shelter is already spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines, it’s actually a really great value for the price of the adoption fee," Bissell says.
But the foundation wants to help shelters find homes for their animals with this annual event offering free adoptions.
In response to the question, "Isn't free adoption bad?," Bissell said, "Each participating shelter completes the same adoption process as they would any other day – the only difference is that BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor the adoption fees. ...
"We have done studies on past events, and have found that more than 95% of pets adopted during Empty the Shelters are still in their homes 6-15 months later – this is an even better rate than some shelters see on a normal day!"
So, if you've been waiting to add a furry new family member, this week offers some great opportunities.
