Cuckoo for cocoa? Then head to San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square for its annual Chocolate Festival.
The event, running 12-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, and Sunday, Sept. 10, gives visitors a chance to indulge in some seriously sweet stuff. In addition to watching chef demonstrations and noshing on samples, visitors can check out one of several ice cream sundae eating contests, with participants chosen at random from the audience. There also will be a “chocolate school” that takes attendees through the chocolate-making process, from bean to bar.
Tickets cost $20 in advance, $30 at the door, and are good for 15 tasting samples. Proceeds benefit Project Open Hand, a nonprofit organization that provides meals for seniors and the critically ill. Ghirardelli Square is located at 900 North Point St., San Francisco. For more information: www.ghirardelli.com.
