Berkeley Marina strings together a kite festival

The Berkeley Kite Festival and West Coast Kite Championship will come to the Berkeley Marina with all manner of kites and other flying contraptions soaring against the waters of San Francisco Bay.

A professional Japanese kite team, a Japanese-style Rokkaku kite battle and free kite-building workshops will also be on hand at Cesar E. Chavez Park. The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31.

Admission to the park and the event is free each day. Parking costs $15 and overflow parking will be offered for $15 at Golden State Fields with a free shuttle.

Explolicious food choices

 

What: Taste all of the Central Valley’s best food and beverages at “Expolicious,” which will be held as part of Fresno’s Food Expo. Some 130 local food and drink vendors will take part, and a live cooking demonstration will be judged by The Food Network’s Simon Majumdar, known for his appearences on Iron Chef America.

Gilroy Garlic Festival

 

What: The self-proclaimed “Garlic Capital of the World” is celebrating its 38th annual Garlic Festival. Highlights include a giant outdoor kitchen where chefs put on a flame show as they cook a variety of garlic ensembles.
